Business visa to Australia

Following changes which were introduced in March 2003, there are 3 Business Visa categories which offer temporary business stay leading to permanent residence for successful applicants who develop new or existing businesses. There is also a direct permanent residence category for “high-calibre” business migrants who obtain sponsorship from State or Territory governments in Australia.

The four business categories are set out briefly below:

Business Owner (Temporary)

This visa is for applicants under 45 years of age with at least vocational English who have had an overall successful business career with an ownership interest of at least 10% in a business. Applicants are also required to provide evidence of significant business and personal assets and their business(es) must meet set turnover levels.

If you are over 45 years of age, but less than 55 years of age, you can apply for State or Territory government sponsorship. If your application for sponsorship is successful, you will be considered against a lower threshold for the visa application.

Investor Linked (Temporary)

This visa is for applicants under 45 years of age with at least vocational English who have had an overall successful record of business or investment management. In addition to making a significant investment in a government approved fund for four years, applicants are required to provide evidence of significant business and personal assets.

If you are over 45 years of age, but less than 55 years of age, you can apply for State or Territory government sponsorship. If your application for sponsorship is successful, you will be considered against a lower threshold for the visa application.

Senior Executive (Temporary)

This visa is for applicants who are under 45 years of age with at least vocational English who have had an overall successful business career and have been employed in one of the top three levels of management of a major business. Applicants are also required to provide evidence of significant business and personal assets.

If you are over 45 years of age, but less than 55 years of age, you can apply for State or Territory government sponsorship. If your application for sponsorship is successful, you will be considered against a lower threshold for the visa application.

Business Talent (Permanent)

This visa is for applicants who are under 55 years of age who have had an overall successful business career. Applicants must be sponsored by a State or Territory government in order to apply for this visa. Applicants are also required to provide evidence of significant business and personal assets and their business must have achieved a significant annual turnover.

Other business migration

If you are currently in Australia on a Subclass 457 Independent Executive visa, you may be eligible to apply for the permanent residence version of one of the visas above or another business visa.
